The Everest House is located at a distance of approximately 10 km from the famous tourist town of Mussoorie and is a short drive away. Sir George Everest House, as the name suggests, was the home and laboratory of Sir George Everest Sir George was a Surveyor-General of India from 1830 to 1843, under whose leadership a great part of the Great Trigonometrical Survey in India was completed. George Everest Peak near Mussoorie derives its name by the presence of his house that is situated 300 meters down the top of this hill.

Sir George was, as it were, accountable for completing the fragment of the Awesome Trigonometric Survey of India along the meridian curve from the south of India extending north to Nepal.
