  • Make a coarse paste of the soaked bhatt dal using a blender.
  • Finely chop the onion and green chili.
  • Mince the garlic and grate the ginger.

  • Heat oil in an iron skillet/kadai. Add cumin seeds, hing, and jamboo grass (optional), and sauté until the cumin seeds turn slightly brown.
  • Add minced garlic and fry until it changes color. Then, add the finely chopped onion and garlic and sauté well. Now, add all the spices, including salt, and sauté for another minute.
  • Add the coarse bhatt dal paste and sauté well. Cook for a minute, then add some water and the green chili. Mix well and let it cook on low heat for 15 minutes. You will notice the sauce turning a dark greenish shade, which is due to the iron skillet, the best way to prepare bhatt ke dubke.
