Ajit Doval

Ajit Kumar Doval KC (born 20 January 1945) is a retired civil servant of the IPS cadre, serving as the fifth and current National Security Advisor (NSA) to the Prime Minister of India, with the precedence equivalent to Cabinet Minister.He previously served as the Director of the Intelligence Bureau in 2004–05, after spending a decade as the head of its operation wing.

On 20 January 1945, Ajit Kumar Doval KC was born. Of the IPS cadre, Ajit Doval is a civil servant who is retired. He has not only served as the fifth National Security Advisor (NSA) to the Prime Minister of India, but he also serves as the current one. The pre-eminence is equivalent to the pre-eminence of the Cabinet Minister. After being the operation wing’s head for a decade, from 2004 to 2005 he had been the Intelligence Bureau’s director.

Life During The Early Years and His Education In 1945, in Pauri Garhwal located in the United Provinces in the Ghiri Banelsyun village, which is now in Uttarakhand, Doval was born. Major G. N. Doval who was Doval’s father, had served as an Indian Army officer.

In the Ajmer province of Rajasthan, in the Ajmer Military School, the early education of Doval was received by him. In 1967, from the Agra University, graduation with an economics master’s degree, was received by Doval. In December 2017, Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar University (previously it was known as Agra University) had awarded Doval with an honorary doctorate; in May 2018, the Kumaun University and in November 2018, the Amity University.

CAREER

Career in Intelligence and Police

In 1968, for doing service in the Indian Police, Doval joined in the Kerala cadre. As Kottayam district’s ASP, he had joined. For seven years each, in Pakistan and in northeast India, Doval was posted. Operations of anti-insurgency in Punjab was what Doval was actively involved in. Before joining the central service, for a few months in 1972 Doval had served in Thalassery in Kerala. Passengers were released from IC-814 in Kandahar in 1999 because Doval was one of the three negotiators. All the Indian Airlines aircraft’s 15 hijackings which had occurred from 1971 to 1999, was terminated by Doval and thus he has the experience of the terminations of all the 15 hijackings. IB’s operations wing has been headed by Doval for over a decade in the headquarters. He was not only the Multi Agency Centre’s (MAC) founder Chairman, but also the Joint Task Force on Intelligence’s (JTFI) founder.

A role had been played by Ajit Doval in intelligence regarding Sikkim’s merger with India. M. K. Narayanan who was the third National Security Advisor of India, had trained Doval for a short-term regarding the operations of counterterrorism. For the negotiation for releasing the Indian Airlines IC-814’s passengers, Doval was a part of the team which was sent to Kandahar. Doval’s Life After Retirement (2005-2014)

In January 2005, Doval had retired from his post as the Intelligence Bureau’s director. In the public policy think tank established by the Vivekananda Kendra known as the Vivekananda International Foundation, Doval became the
founding Director in December 2009. In the discussion on Indian national security, Doval has remained actively indulged. Not only did Doval write editorial pieces for various famous journals and newspapers, but he has also delivered lectures on the security challenges of India and the objectives of foreign policy objectives. He has delivered such lectures at several well-known government and non-governmental organisations, Indian and foreign security think-tanks.

Doval was the co-writer of the black money of India going abroad which are placed in tax havens and secret banks’ two reports, along with others in 2009 and 2011. Doval has been a field leader as a part of the BJP constituted task force. Doval has delivered lectures as a guest, on strategic issues at London, IISS, Capitol Hill, Melbourne University, the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Administrative Academy, Mussoorie, Washington DC, Institute of Australia-India, College for National Defence, New Delhi, in the current times. At global events, international speeches has been delivered by Doval. He has cited the requirement of harmony between the significantly entrenched and the approaching world powers which are always increasing.

National Security Advisor (2014-Present)

The fifth National Security Advisor of India was what Doval was appointed as, on 30th May 2014. Doval expedited the homecoming of 46 trapped Indian nurses from a hospital in Tikrit, Iraq, was facilitated by Doval in June 2014. This was followed by Mosul’s capture by ISIL. On 25 June 2014 for understanding the ground’s position and for making high-level Iraqi government connections, Doval had gone to Iraq. On 5 July 2014, the nurses were handed to Kurdish authorities by the ISIL militants at Erbil city, even though their specific release circumstances are not clear. The nurses were brought back to Kochi which was their home, by an Air India plane which the Indian government’s special arrangement.

A cross-border military operation was planned by Doval along with Army Chief General Dalbir Singh Suhag, against those who were operating out of Myanmar that is, against the separatists of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN-K). The mission being an accomplishment was claimed by the Indian officials. The killings o lf 20-38 separatists who had belonged to the Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN-K) had happened in the operation. Still, the strikes were denied by the government of Myanmar. Entirely on the Indian side of the border, the Indian operation against NSCN-K had taken place, according to Myanmar officials. Doval is largely credited for the doctrinal shifts in the policy of the Indian national security, which was connected to Pakistan. The Strategic Policy Group (SPG) is the first tier of the structure of three tiers at the National Security Council and the formation of the nucleus of its apparatus for making decisions is done by that. With the US Secretary of State and with the Advisor of National Security, Ajit Doval had conversed for securing the Indian pilot’s release, after the Balakot airstrike and the Jammu and Kashmir airstrikes which was the retaliation, had happened in 2019, leading to Abhinandan Varthaman who was the Indian pilot, being captured by the Pakistani military. As a 5 years’ NSA, the reappointment of Doval had happened.
He was given a Cabinet Minister’s personal rank on 3 rd June 2019. Such a rank is held by the first NSA which Doval is. For the abrogation of Jammu and Kashmir’s exceptional status, Ajit Doval has been an conducive personality.

Ajit Doval had walked the riot-hit northeast Delhi’s streets for the assessment of the situation and for the reassurance of the provincial residents, on 26th February 2020. Handing over an 22 militant leaders’ group who were active in Assam and other states of northeast India, to the government of India, was done by the military forces of Myanmar on 15th May 2020. AWARDS

  • The Police Medal for exemplary service was received by the youngest police officer known as Ajit Doval. After six years of service in the police force, this award was presented to Doval.
  • The award of the President’s Police Medal was later presented to Doval.
  • One of the highest awards for gallantry called the Kirti Chakra, was given to Doval in 1988. Formerly given only as a military honour, it was the first police officer named Ajit Doval who had received such a medal.
